Venus and Neptune 1882
by George Henry Boughton
The Anglo-American artist George Boughton was highly acclaimed for his humorous, sometimes sentimental subjects. In the early 1880s, he visited the Dutch coastal towns searching for picturesque subjects. Here, he contrasts the appearances of a pretty Dutch milkmaid and a wizened seaman.
