'Police helicopter over Esher', (2011), oil on linen, 90 x 120 cm.2011
This landscape depicts a view across rear gardens in an Esher suburb. Unfortunately, the tranquility of such places is now routinely disturbed by modern technology - the noise of aircraft from Heathrow flying overhead or even worse police and privately owned helicopters (surely one of the ugliest and dangerous craft ever invented) buzzing away at lower altitudes. It seemed to me that one could not honestly depict a contemporary landscape without acknowledging the presence of such machines.
