'Good day Mrs Orman', (2013), oil on linen, 71 x 107 cm
This painting depicts my granddaughter Olivia Orman and one of her pet dogs running to greet her mother Sophie who is behind a wooden fence by the side of their home in Esher on a summer's day. Sophie is a caring mum but she is also a busineesswoman who is often distracted by her mobile phone. The subject and composition were inspired by Paul Gauguin's Britttany self-portrait 'Good day Monsieur Gauguin', (1889) Prague, National Gallery.
