In Provence they encountered the ghost of Cezanne (2012) 122 x 91 cm, oil on linen2012
In the early 1960s Margaret Clark and I were married and shortly afterwards we visited Aix and Arles in Provence as tourists but also to see the places where Cezanne and van Gogh had lived and the motifs they had painted. In the case of Cezanne, the Monte Sainte Victoire was a favourite subject so when walking nearby, it was easy to imagine the painter at his easel perhaps accompanied by a guard dog.
