Το Πνεύμα της Θλίψεως
1896
The table illustrates a young male figure, the Spirit of grief, holding one lyre. The young man plays the strings of the lyre with his right hand. The Spirit has angel wings, the continuity of which abruptly interrupted by an imposing circle surrounding the project. Expression of Spirit is that of silent suffering, but it does not seem to have any distortion in the face or tears. This item refers to the expression of figures of classical funerary reliefs. The Spirit of grief is the personification of grief itself. The table was created in 1896 along with a variety of others, including the " Olympic ", " The Glory of Psara " and " The Old Man who smokes ", the year Gizis received a silver medal for the " Diploma of the Olympic Games " on the "Annunciation of Greece". This issue is intensely preoccupied the Gizis, who thought that can not paint the country as beautiful as he ponders.
