Saint Michael Slaying the Dragon 1490
by Martin Schongauer
Medium:
Engraving
This engraving is Martin Schongauer's interpretation of the famous tale of Michael: the archangel-saint said to have vanquished Satan (the dragon) on more than one occasion. In Catholic doctrine Michael was the leader of the Army of God and battled as a spiritual warrior against the powers of evil.
