Acting on with corporate principle, "Pola seeks to contribute to the prosperity and advancement of society through its work in the world of health and beauty" in mind, the Pola Orbis Group has founded the Pola Research Institute of Beauty&Culture (est. 1976), the Pola Foundation for the Promotion of Traditional Japanese Culture(est. 1979), and the Pola Art Foundation(est. 1996) over the years. Through these organizations Pola seeks to further the research, dissemination, and promotion of Japanese arts and culture.
The building of the Museum was envisioned on the basis of a "symbiosis between Hakone's natural beauty and the works of art" concept. In this spirit, the majority of the Museum's structures are located underground, to both harmonize with the surrounding natural environment and to appear as if imbedded in the depths of the forest scenery. Similarly, the lighting used in the galleries employs the most advanced fiber optic technology to allow each work of art to be seen at its best. We hope that visitors to this museum will enjoy this world of beauty woven from superb art works, nature's lush greenery, and a light-filled architectural space. [source]
