THE MOON AND ME
NEW WORK CURRENTLY ON SHOW AT THE BISCUIT FACTORY
This new series of work is based mainly around my preoccupation with the relationship of the moon to the sea and our response to this marriage of contrasts. In 2010 i spent a great deal of time around my native Northern coastline and Robin Hoods Bay in particular, wandering about in the dark, falling for the colurs and the quiet blanket of light that invaded my senses, imprinting a flourescent negative in my nind's eye. I wanted to try and capture the mysterious, fey quality of the watching moon and connect it with the power of the sea and in the process hopefully bring to life a little of our own fasc ination and imaginings when we connect with these forces of our natural world. Nothe moon and sea are in our psyche and spending time alone in the presence fof both is quite amazing. I have only recently started to include figures into my work, usually preferring to include our presence purely through the remote act as observer. I am finding this inclusion of the figure now (and in my previous series) opens up another facet to explore.
