Portrait of Henrick Hooft 1640
by Michiel Jansz van Mierevelt
This young Amsterdam man from a good family – he was later a mayor of Amsterdam – married Aegje
Hasselaer in 1640. The young couple had their portraits painted on that occasion, but not in Amsterdam. They went to Delft, where Michiel van Mierevelt headed a large and successful workshop. He produced solid
work, and you always knew what to expect from him.
