'Outspan' (1974) oil on canvas, 122 x 122 cm 1974
by john albert walker
This was one of a large number of orange pictures executed at intervals between the 1965 and 2013. Enlargement of an orange evocative of planets and human body orifices. This orange had the word Outspan stencilled on it to indicate its South African origin. A challenge associated with painting oranges is that of fitting a round object into a flat square.
