Flood at Moret (Inondation à Moret)
1879
In 1859 Oller studied in Charles Gleyre’s studio with Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and other future Impressionists. Oller and Sisley developed as artists along similar paths—both embraced plein air painting and captured fleeting effects of light and atmosphere with quick, broken brushstrokes—although Oller’s work in the 1870s was still more Realist than Impressionist.
Here, Sisley depicts the landscape of Moret on the river Loing. Oller often spent periods of time working in the outskirts of Paris with his colleagues and may well have visited Sisley there. [source]
