About

Born in England in 1830, Thomas Cane trained as an architect before arriving in New Zealand in 1874 to be the Canterbury Provincial Architect. On the abolition of the provinces in 1876, he remained in Christchurch as an architect. He was also known for his watercolour landscapes, mainly around the Banks Peninsula, notably Akaroa Harbour, and he exhibited in the South Islan...
