About
“RoyRoy” as often called by his family, friends and peers was born in Brgy. Mabunao, Panabo City, Davao del Norte on December 19, 1985. The first child of the two children of Cero Basio Gulayan, Sr. a farmer, a fisherman and electrician, and Trely Calunsag Libunao-Gulayan a dedicated mother and housewife.
During his childhood days, it was a quite normal life until everything changed. After graduated from elementary he suffered an illness that caused him to become physically impaired. However, that tragic experience triggered his love and passion for the art, he started sketching portraits of Philippine National Heroes using ballpoint pen and then paints commission portraits of his relatives and friends using acrylic medium until he slowly developed and improved his craft.
As an artist, he wants to inspire others and continue to explore, learn and improve his craft with the help of his mentors namely: Joselito “Jojo” T. Jimenez, a full-time visual artist, University of the Philippines Fine Arts graduate; Almann S. Batiao, an educator, art critic, and art collector; and Jeadel Joy Agripo-Solomon, a PWD advocate and a leader. He constantly participates in various local and national art competitions, and art exhibits to further hone his career. His inspirations are God the Almighty, family and friends.
His mediums are oil/acrylic, charcoal, and watercolor. He has joined various En Plein Air and art sketch sessions with co-artists. He is also a recent member of the Group of Aspiring Mindanawon Artists (GAMA), Davao Watercolour Society (DWS) and Davao Artists Federation (DAFI).
