Michael Lierly

My recent paintings, which fall into three distinct series, are all primarily concerned with memory. Memory comprises both the subject, as I paint almost solely from memory, and the object, the paintings are themselves depictions of personal and cultural memories. Memory is here conceived as a flawed, analogue device whose corruptibility demands creative reconstruction.
