Michael Azgour is an actively exhibiting artist, currently living between San Francisco and Krakow, Poland. His award-winning paintings have been exhibited in galleries across the United States and Europe and are part of dozens of public and private collections.
Specializing in abstract figurative painting, Michael’s work focuses on expressive and geometric abstractions of the figure. His oil on canvas paintings use the visual relationship between figures and the environment as a medium to peer into the instances of social behavior that form our life experience. Distortions in form and depth—as well as an emphasis on expressive paint application—create visual ambiguity and a sense of mystery. His unique process combines these abstractions with representational modes of painting to yield one-of-a-kind compositions.
Azgour teaches painting, drawing, and design courses at several Bay Area institutions every winter quarter, including the San Francisco Art Institute as well as Stanford University’s Architectural Design and Continuing Education Programs.
