Justin Solà is a freelance designer and illustrator working mainly in the music and extreme sports industries.
His work is a combination of both traditional and digital methods of art.
“I spent 15 years working as a designer in a variety of design environments. My last job in the UK before moving to Barcelona was at the software company “Codemasters” where i was an in-house designer responsible for producing promotional graphics for the release of video games on PC/PlayStation/Xbox consoles for titles such as Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing, MTV Music Generator, Colin McRae Rally and Toca Race Driver.
Now working freelance, i produce a variety of work including apparel illustration, design for the music industry, art exhibitions and editorial illustration. I have worked for brands such as Pacha Group, Sole Technologies and Random House Publishing.”
“My illustration work is a fusion of characteristics of urban art and comic art. The process is a mix of observational study and my own interpretation and imagination.”
Justin´s work is inspired by urban culture, people and nature. Spending time in the mountains, he is inspired by the textures, forms and shadows found in rock faces which resulted in the inclusion of this aesthetic into his work. A landscape of fractures and crevices, rugged, irregular and unpolished form to reveal his subject matter in a dynamic, contemporary manner.
“I love to look at the forms and folds in the rocks and the shadows they cast. When i am working on a piece, i apply this visual appearence to my subject.”
Some of his work consists of trend based iconic subjects, while others are personal explorations converted into visual ideas.
He works with a variety of mediums such as Spray paint, acrylic, indian ink, fineliners and markers.
