Hans Bollongier (c. 1600–1672/75)
Hans Bollongier of Haarlem specialised in painting still lifes of flowers, as well as genre pieces. Although many artists painted floral still lifes in the early half of the seventeenth century, Bollongier appears to have been the only specialist in Haarlem. His work reveals little contemporary influence. Compared to other painters of floral still lifes, he employed a loose, forceful brushstroke. His paintings also feature a powerful contrast between dark and light.
