Born in October 1850, León-François Comerre was a French academic painter. His paintings are known for depicting portraits of women and Oriental themes.
During his academic career, both Orientalism and the ascent of the Symbolist movement greatly influenced his works.
Exhibiting multiple times throughout his entire life, León was a man defined by the art of painting, with his wife and nephew being prominent painters themselves.
He passed away in 1916, and a catalogue raisonné of his works was published later in 1980 by Les Presses Artistiques, Paris.
