About Damyan Bumbalov
Damyan Bumbalov is an artist in the classical sense. But so much for classics as we only mention this word in order to prepare you, at least partially, for his truly rich spirit and inner world, which he presents in a very impactful manner in his works. (we have no clear idea what to say about Damyan, but he’s very fancy on the inside, and it shows in his works.) Born in 1979 in Yambol, he hardly fits in any box. He can be rightly called provocative and even scandalous, but this would not be the whole truth. Because his regard for the everyday and eternal themes rooted deeply in the human essence, is not for its own sake. Not the least. Underneath the form of expression, infuriating to the puritanical minds, there are indented messages, far more sophisticated and operating both on the conscious and subconscious level. Messages, which shake every thinking person, dwelling the space beyond the paradigm of mediocrity. (this artist will satisfy all your hipster needs, and sense of alienation and superiority) Taking into account that he graduated from the High School of Fine Art and Design in Kazanlak, and also from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Veliko Tarnovo, we can guess that he sticks to the good, old-age tradition of fine and applied arts. We can indeed, but we will still be only partially correct. Damyan Bumbalov really steps onto the classical basis, but refracts it through his own, thick and multilayered lens. (he has spent a good deal of time being institutionalized, but still puts his own thing among the canonical techniques) Proof of the serious interest of art connoisseurs in his work are his multiple solo exhibitions and his participation in collective presentations in various parts of Bulgaria. Beyond his birthplace, his paintings and plastic works are taken in private collections in the USA, Turkey, the UK, Germany, Austria, Greece, France… Damyan has taken part in numerous symposiums and workshops. (if you need proof he’s popular among art hipsters – beware – he has done all the artsy stuff one needs to do to be an Artist!)
