Mama I'm Coming Home 2015
Oil on canvas · 80 x 60 cm
£4,500
A recurring theme in Melinda Mátýas’ work is the sense of homecoming. In ‘Mama I’m coming home’ she communi- cates homecoming as a circular phenomenon, always coming back to the place we left before. Mátyás explains, ‘Paulo Coelho’s book, The Alchemist, comes to my mind, where the hero leaves home for seeking the treasure, and after many years of adversity he finds it at the very place he left’.
About the Artist: Melinda Mátyás (1976) studied Neo-Byz- antine mural painting in Bucharest and received a BA in painting from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Na- poca (RO) in 2009. The artist describes her current paint- ings and drawings as ‘psychologically charged expressions of the Hidden, existential approach towards the Self and its contemplation from an exterior perspective.’ Her studies of the human form challenge the art of figurative painting and go beyond the external. Mátyás’ work has been exhibited in various European galleries ,and shows in Romania, Poland, Hungary, Portugal and the United Kingdom. She is currently based in London.
