‘Waste Dump’, (2008), oil on linen, 140 x 100 cm.
2008
This painting of a waste dump reminds us that moderm consumer and materialist societies generate huge quantities of broken/discarded products and packaging that proves diificult to dispose of in a safe manner. It mourns the industrial pollution that is taking place across the whole planet but especially in rapidly developing industrial nations such as China and India. Dumps are a blight on the landscape and nobody wants to live near them. Such pollution not only damages nature but also the health of humans because some of the waste is toxic. Only the seabirds circling above seem to gain from the existence of waste dumps.
