Summer  1625

by Jan van Goyen

Small circular landscapes must have been in great demand among the art-buying public. Van Goyen painted dozens of them over the years. In Summer, he combined several typical ‘Dutch’ motifs: an old house in the shade of a tall tree, a windmill on a bulwark, and a church tower.
