Life in the ruins
2014
oil on linen, 71 x 107
A composite composition based on memories and documentary photographs depicting the post WW2 world of the late 1940s and the 1950s when children played in the streets and on the bombsites in working-class areas of British towns. In those days few residents owned cars so the streets and alleyways were safe for playing games. The painting includes a paper boy with a heavy delivery bike - this was a part time job I did as a teenager in Grimsby.
