Fazio's Mistress (Aurelia)  1873

by Dante Gabriel Rossetti

The picture was much reworked in 1873, but the head of the first model (Fanny Cornforth) was not changed. The subject is inspired by the poetry of Fazio degli Uberti (1326-1360), addressing his Lady, Agniola of Verona, which Rossetti had included in his Early Italian Poets in 186.
