Christ Carrying the Cross  1629

The procession engulfing Christ carrying his cross to Calvary winds out of the city at the left, into the foreground, and back to Calvary at the far right. The oblong shape suggests that the canvas was painted for a specific place, perhaps a sacristy. Francken included a similar work in some of his paintings of collections.
