This portrait was purchased by the great American collectors Harry and Louisine Havemeyer from the noble Martinengo family of Brescia, who believed it to represent a young man related to them from the Colleoni family of neighboring Bergamo. The painting, probably dating to the 1570s, hung in the Martinengo villa and its conception recalls Veronese's illusionistic frescoes ...
