I am a figurative painter, art critic and art historian. I grew up in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and then studied fine art at an art school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1956-61. For many years I lectured on visual culture at Middlesex University in North London. I currently live in Surrey.
